FANUC’s compact ROBODRILL α-DiB Plus, which we will find in Hall 4, Stand D2 at MachTech&InnoTech 2022, provides its new spindle with a torque of up to 100 Nm – 70% more than the standard spindle.
FANUC designs the new highly reliable and high-performance milling machining center ROBODRILL α-DiB Plus. Enhanced features such as higher spindle torque, intelligent feed control and Punch tapping are just some of the customer-oriented additions to the new ROBODRILL series, which is based on FANUC’s latest 31i-B Plus control .

This torque rating is very high for a center of this size, providing the potential to achieve maximum performance for this class of machining centers in terms of machining profitability.
The key to most of ROBODRILL’s newest capabilities, which we’ll be showcasing September 13-16 at MachTech&InnoTech, is FANUC’s 31i-B Plus control. This provides a modern user interface for easy programming and setup. Especially for multi-axis, multi-directional, high-speed and high-precision machining, the 31i-B Plus offers advantages that include FANUC’s Fast Cycle Time Technology function, high-quality machining with the Fine Surface Technology function, and increased SRAM memory for more flexible configuration of additional functions. In terms of connectivity, ROBODRILL α-DiB Plus supports all major industrial communication protocols to ensure that customers can take advantage of the many benefits that real-time production monitoring and data analysis bring to users.
In addition to the new control and improved communications, FANUC has also improved the DDRIB direct-drive rotary 4th axis option, where the maximum speed is now 300 min-1 (compared to the previous 200 min-1). “In addition, the fixation time has been reduced from 0.8 to 0.5 s and the torque of the fixation device has been increased from 500 to 700 Nm. Now in four-axis operations, the maximum load of the DDR-TiB rotary unit is now 200 kg, compared to the previous 150 kg, while the torque of the fixing device has increased to 1100 Nm, providing an optimal solution for larger workpieces such as battery housings on electric cars”, commented the company.
Like all FANUC developments, ROBODRILL α-DiB Plus is characterized by energy-efficient production – the center consumes electricity only when necessary. Faster programming, verification and cycle times further contribute to reduced energy consumption.
Representing a high-speed universal machine suitable for all types of production, regardless of batch size, ROBODRILL α-DiB Plus is available in two versions: standard and advanced. The standard model is ideal for a wide market segment, including medical equipment manufacturing, watchmaking, electric vehicle manufacturing, and more. FANUC’s advanced ROBODRILL machining center is primarily designed for productions that have high production volume requirements. This version offers more Z-axis travel, an even stronger column and base, and a power failure backup module so the machine stops in a controlled manner. The goal is to prevent damage to workpieces, cutting tools, or fixtures in the event of a power outage.
Three sizes are available (X-axis travel 300, 500 and 700 mm respectively) in both standard and advanced versions, with all the usual options in terms of indicators such as number of axes (3, 4 or 5) and spindle speed ( up to 24,000 min-1).
